PICKSEED is proud of its leadership in the development, production and distribution of turf grass, forage crop and hybrid corn seed.

Corn

First decide what the intention is for this crop.  Do you want to grow early season grain, a high tonnage silage crop, or just standing graze crop?

  • Grain - earlier maturing varieties are best suited to areas that receive 2300 C.H.U's or less. Rapid dry down and high bushel weights are also crucial to your selection.
  • Silage - for higher yields select varieties high in heat units that are a large plant, and also select a 'silage specific' variety to maximize tonnage per acre.  For dairy operations select a high eneragy, earlier maturing varieties, with high grain content and a more rapid dry down.
  • Grazing - select a variety higher in C.H.U's than your average, low lignin content and higher sugars.  Softer kernel and finer stalks are more suited to grazing and have better leaf retention than early maturing varieties.

Forage

For successful forage these questions need to be determined.

  • What will the forage be used for?
  • What kind of ground is the forage going into?
  • How much grass / legume content do you wish to have?

Turf

Obtaining the perfect, lush green lawn can be daunting to recreational growers, but we have taken the guesswork out of the equation by formulating different mixtures of lawn seed, each designed with a purpose, and therefore using different grasses in each.
